NEW TOLL RATES ON A2 MOTORWAY AS OF JANUARY 2, 2018

As of January 2, 2018 toll rates for category 1 (motorcycles, cars) and category 5 (oversize) vehicles change on toll sections of A2 Motorway Nowy Tomyśl – Konin. The toll for cars and motorcycles will increase by 0.02 zloty per each kilometer, while the toll for oversize vehicles – by 0.20 zlotys per kilometer. The cost of using the A2 section Świecko – Nowy Tomyśl remains unaltered.

The change of toll rates on the 150 km long stretch of A2 will become effective as of January 2, 2018, 6:00 a.m. From that day on the toll rates for driving each of the three 50 km sections between Nowy Tomyśl and Konin will be as follows:

• Cat. 1 (motorcycles and cars) : PLN 20 incl. VAT
• Cat. 5 (oversize vehicles): PLN 200 incl. VAT

The tolls for other categories II – IV (heavy vehicles) remain unaltered.

The toll increase is a reflection of the real cost of maintenance of the motorway, the required investments and debt service. The toll rates are determined based on the Concession Agreement, the long term financial plan and the traffic forecasts. The entire risk connected with traffic and revenues is borne by the concessionaire. Neither the State nor the taxpayers pay a single zloty for our Nowy Tomyśl – Konin section of the motorway, unlike the State motorways where the State budget subsidizes more than 60% of the toll rates. Also, an important factor affecting the toll rates is that the tolls on concession motorways are not exempt from a 23% VAT. This means that our toll rates cannot be compared against those on State motorways – says Zofia Kwiatkowska, AWSA Spokesperson.

According to the Concession Agreement, toll revenues are allocated by AWSA in the first place to enhancing quality of the motorway by means of:

winter and routine maintenance of the motorway, including operation,
heavy maintenance – pavement structural overlay, rehabilitation and upgrading (in 2018 structural overlay in the section Poznań – Września)
widening of the Poznań Bypass – widening of the bypass to include the third lane in the 13 km stretch between Komorniki and Krzesiny interchanges, additional noise barriers and expanding the existing ones (works commencing mid 2018)
repayment of loans with commercial banks

Each year AWSA and AWSAII pay almost PLN 300 million of taxes and other public charges. The Company has been efficiently managing the A2 Project and has been meeting all its obligations under the Concession Agreement. In 2017 AWSA repaid the EIB loan releasing the State Treasury guarantee of EUR 1 billion which now permits the Ministry of Finance to apply the released funds in financing new projects thus contributing to the development of the country.
