As previously planned, Autostrada Wielkopolska is launching the next stage of the Motorway Driving Course. In response to the huge interest in the project and in order to meet the expectations of many driver training centers, the current scope of the course has been extended. The program will cover not only new participants in course preparing for the driving test, but also participants interested in supplementary lessons and drivers who already have driving license and wish to improve their skills and take advantage of additional driving on the motorway.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Autostrada Wielkopolska, to enhance road safety level, has increased the number of centers participating in the Motorway Driving Course. Until recently, only Driver Training Centers could join the program. This year, the cooperation will also be extended to include Driving Technique Improvement Centers, whose instructors and trainers will show and explain the rules of driving on motorways and expressways in a practical and easy way.<\/p>\n

Encouraged by the success of last year's edition, we are expanding the possibilities of joining the Motorway Driving Course in 2022. We have noticed great interest in improving motorway driving techniques among people who already have a driving license and among participants in courses who would like to take additional driving hours supervised by an instructor. Therefore the decision was made to extend the program, allowing drivers to gain confidence and efficiency in driving on Polish and European motorways and expressways – says Krzysztof Andrzejewski, member of the Management Board of Autostrada Wielkopolska.<\/p>\n

Driving on motorway or expressways does not currently form a part of compulsory driving course in Poland. Many drivers face this challenge alone behind the wheel for the first time. The motorway driving course allows for practicing maneuvers characteristic for this type of roads under the supervision of a professional instructor.

\nThis year, the program can be used in three ways by:

\n• Participants in the course preparing for a driving license test. In such case, Autostrada Wielkopolska cooperates with the best Driver Training Centers from the Wielkopolskie and Lubuskie provinces, which ensure motorway driving during the 4 hours compulsory driving outside built-up areas. When preparing for the driving license test, the participants already acquire appropriate driving behavior and learn how to use the motorway properly under the watchful eye of the instructor. It is enough to choose the Driver Training Center which cooperates with Autostrada Wielkopolska and carries out motorway driving as part of the Motorway Driving Course. The list of such centers is available on the program website: www.kursjazdynaautostradzie.pl. The participant in course may also notify an off-list Driver Training Center to the website to encourage such center to join the program, in return for free of charge driving lessons on the motorway;

\n•Participants who have already completed a driving license training course, but wish to take advantage of motorway driving with an DTC instructor for various reasons;

\n• Drivers who would like to check his\/her technique of driving on the motorway under the supervision of an instructor or prepare to drive on motorway.

\nIn the latter two cases, it is necessary to sign up for a ride at a Driver Training Center or Driving Technique Improvement Center selected on the website of the program. Available dates are shown  in a specially prepared schedule. Additional training as part of the Motorway Driving Course program is free of charge for the participants thereof.

\nResearch conducted by ARC Rynek i Opinia commissioned by Autostrada Wielkopolska shows that less than 17% of drivers holding a driving license had the opportunity to practice driving on the motorway during the course. Police statistics also confirm the need to change the approach and practice motorway driving during driver training.<\/p>\n

The most common causes of road incidents on the motorway include non-adjustment of  speed to the road conditions, failure to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front and incorrect lane change. We remind that the speed limit on the motorway is 140 km \/ h. Such speed, however, requires the driver’s special caution and quick reaction  – says Izabela Czerwi\u0144ska, officer of the Road Traffic Department of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Pozna\u0144.<\/p>\n

The main and most important goal of the program is to increase road safety. The motorway driving course covers all aspects of driving on motorways and expressways – from correctly joining the traffic, through changing lanes, proper signaling of maneuvers, to the rules of using Toll Collection Plazas and Rest and Service Areas. As a result, participants in course make safer decisions behind the wheel, perform all maneuvers in a more flexible and reliable way, and are able to sense the differences between speeds during various maneuvers.  Moreover, driving on motorways and expressways is the best way to learn how to maintain safe distance between the vehicles, which is half of the speed shown on the car's speedometer as per the regulations.

\nThe ambassador of the program is Tomek Czopik, a safe driving promoter, trainer, sports driver, who also teaches safe driving.<\/p>\n

Actions that promote responsible behavior by drivers and motivate them to be more cautious behind the wheel are extremely important. I have been conducting this type of training for years and I am glad that a program such as the Motorway Driving Course has been created. I know from experience that the proper driving and right maneuvers and driving dynamics are learnt the most effectively under the supervision of an experienced instructor. Such approach combined with solid theoretical preparation and maximum focus on the road increases road safety for the driver, passengers and other road users – says Tomek Czopik, Ambassador of the  Motorway Driving Course program.<\/p>\n

Autostrada Wielkopolska was Poland’s first to initiate the Motorway Driving Course in 2021. It is an important social and educational program that has a real impact on the skills of future and current drivers on high-speed roads. In implementing the project, Autostrada Wielkopolska closely cooperates with the Provincial Road Traffic Centers in Pozna\u0144 and Zielona Góra. The honorary patronage over the program is taken by: the National Road Safety Council, the Marshal of the Wielkopolska Province, the Marshal of the Lubuskie Province, the President of the City of Pozna\u0144 and the Provincial Police Headquarters in Pozna\u0144.<\/p>\n
