Read moreThanks to the hard work of engineers and hundreds of people working every day on the motorway, the A2 concession section Świecko – Konin is becoming even more comfortable, safe and environment – friendly. We believe that these changes will translate into an even better travel experience and enhanced safety of users driving on the motorway managed by Autostrada Wielkopolska.
In June 2024, Autostrada Wielkopolska began construction of the third lane in a 10-kilometer section between the Poznań Krzesiny and Poznań Wschód interchanges. The company is upgrading the pavement and infrastructure to make it more durable and better suited to heavy traffic.
Over the past few years, this is another huge investment by Autostrada Wielkopolska SA in the expansion of the A2 concession section. In 2019, drivers were given the third lane in each direction in a 16-kilometer stretch between the Poznań Zachód and Poznań Krzesiny interchanges. In total, the cost of expanding and upgrading the entire motorway bypass (between the Poznań Zachód – Poznań Wschód interchanges) exceeded PLN 350 million.
Autostrada Wielkopolska has also launched modern toll system capable of reading vehicle license plates. Video tolling was implemented in January 2025 in the section between Poznań and Konin. Drivers can now pay toll via the application, reducing the transaction time and increasing trip efficiency. The Company continues talks with the Ministry of Infrastructure concerning video tolling in the entire 255-kilometer section of the A2 concession. The implementation of this system is a response to drivers’ expectations and brings the tolling system up to modern standards. However, it also takes a significant financial and organizational effort – it requires modification of the entire tolling system, the infrastructure at the Toll Plazas (including their partial redevelopment) and regular maintenance works, with capital expenditure of 60 million Zlotys.
In 2024, the redevelopment of the overbridge at the intersection of the A2 Motorway and National Road 92 in Września and the bridge over Struga Bawół in the mainline of the A2 Motorway near Słupca were completed. As part of the work, those structures were built practically from scratch – the foundations of the structures were modernized, new supports and span structures were built, bringing them up to current technical and construction requirements. Thanks to cooperation with the public party, the parameters of those structures have also been raised in terms of load capacity. Importantly, the works were performed without closing the motorway. The company also financed the purchase and commissioning of a sectional speed measurement system in the A2 section between the Poznań Krzesiny and Poznań Komorniki interchanges. The effects are positive – already after the first month of the system’s operation, the average speed of vehicles drivers traveled the speed-measured section of the motorway bypass of Poznań decreased, and the percentage of car drivers driving at excessive speed dropped more than sixfold.
The Company consistently implements and supports sustainable development solutions. After replacing all motorway lighting with energy-efficient and more environment-friendly lighting, the time has come to develop a network of electric vehicle charging stations at Rest and Service Areas. In 2024, as part of a joint project, Polenergia Group has put in place 300-kW to 400-kW chargers at six Rest and Service Areas, and, additionally, at Chociszewo and Rogoziniec Service Areas, also EV chargers for trucks, which is rare in Poland. Ultimately, there will be vehicle charging stations at each Service Area located along the concession section of the A2.
For almost four years now, beginning drivers or those who feel uncomfortable driving on the motorway can take advantage of the free program Driving Course on the Motorway launched by Autostrada Wielkopolska. Since 2021, driver training and driving technique improvement centers cooperating with Autostrada Wielkopolska have already trained more than 2,000 drivers. More than 90 driving instructors are involved in the program, teaching in practice how to drive safely on the motorway. The Company created and launched this free program to raise awareness of the unique nature of driving on motorways and expressways among drivers. Reliable and sound education increases driver awareness and road safety, especially on motorways where higher travel speeds are achieved and specific traffic rules and regulations apply.
The A2 motorway is a key transportation route connecting eastern and western Poland for millions of drivers not only from Poznań and the surrounding areas, but also from all over Poland. The A2 concession section between Świecko and Konin is part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), one of the most important links between Western and Central Europe. Autostrada Wielkopolska is constantly investing in the development of this 255-kilometer section of the A2 it manages to provide safe, comfortable and modern infrastructure for the benefit of all motorway users.
