These accidents could have been avoided if drivers had been more careful and followed the rules.
June 17 marked the start of the extension of the Poznań motorway bypass between Poznań Krzesiny and Poznań Wschód by 3 lanes for each direction. This is a huge investment requiring work and the involvement of many people. Since the investment is being carried out under traffic, road workers are working in a secured and fenced-off area right next to cars driving on the motorway.
We draw drivers’ attention to road workers for the sake of their safety, says Anna Ciamciak, spokeswoman for Autostrada Wielkopolska S.A.. – The construction site has been designed and secured with special care, and the works have been planned in accordance with the requirements and rules to ensure the safety of workers. But it also depends to a large extent on the behavior of drivers and their attentiveness whether the work will proceed safely.
Just behind the separators separating traffic from the construction site, not only machines are working, but above all people. Road workers, who are working to put an additional third lane into use for drivers within the expected timeframe. We urge drivers to drive safely, adjust their speed, follow the road signs in force and be attentive. Together, let’s ensure the safety of road workers during the works.
The inauguration of the campaign drawing drivers’ attention to motorway workers takes place on the 20th of Junne, the day when the #(S)HeWorks#ICare action is carried out on many European motorways, showing the daily work of motorway maintenance people (maintenance workers, patrolmen, etc.). In Poland, too, we want to raise drivers’ awareness and draw attention to the fact that the highway is a road that needs to be taken care of every day on many levels, for the sake of travelers’ safety. Every day, this unique motorway service is provided by hundreds of people. Patrolmen checking every kilometer of the motorway 24 hours a day, maintenance workers, cleaning services, workers taking care of the green areas, cleanliness and, finally, road workers building new pavement and lanes.
All it takes is constant concentration on the road and adherence to traffic regulations and, in the case of repairs, temporary traffic organization signs, including speed limits. Let’s remember that there are people working right next to speeding vehicles.
