Conclusion of the Agreement for the Construction and Operation of A2 Motorway section from Nowy Tomyśl to Świecko (km 105.9)

On 30 August 2008 the negotiations held since July last year to define business terms for the construction and operation of A2 Motorway from Świecko to Nowy Tomyśl were completed.

The Agreement for the construction and operation of the motorway was signed by Cezary Grabarczyk, the Minister of Infrastructure, and the representatives of Autostrada Wielkopolska S.A. (AWSA), the Concession Company, at the Ministry.
The Financial Close involving the final acceptance by the financing institutions crediting the project is planned to be achieved at the beginning of the year 2009. This shall be the project’s financial basis and enable the construction to commence. The time schedule adopted by both parties provides for commencing the construction in March 2009 and opening the motorway for traffic at the end of 2011. Strabag Austria shall be the general contractor for the project.
The A2 section to Świecko shall be the first ever motorway section of that length built using the concrete technology. The Agreement signed with the Government defined the costs of construction of the Western part of the A2 motorway at EUR 1 milliard 298 million, that is EUR 12.2 million per kilometer. The cost of the construction of Nowy Tomyśl-Świecko is comprehensive and includes the costs of the construction design and all preparatory works to be performed by the Company before commencing the construction. Moreover; the cost of complete motorway equipment is taken into account, including, without limitation Toll Plazas, Emergency Systems, Rest and Service Areas, totaling EUR 1.5 million per kilometer. The projects implemented by other entities do not cover such necessary infrastructure.

The scope of the project includes:

  • 105.9 km of the new motorway with concrete pavement, including 18.8 km of the existing national road no 2 to be upgraded
  • 76 bridges and flyovers – 86 as a target
  • 2 Motorway Maintenance Centres (Ilanka, Biały Mur)
  • 6 complete motorway interchanges – 8 as a target (Nowy Tomyśl, Trzciel, Jordanowo, Torzym, Rzepin, Świecko)
  • 6 Rest and Service Areas – 10 as a target (Rogoziniec, Chociszewo, Koryta, Walewice, Sosna, Gnilec) equipped with parking lots, toilets, children’s playgrounds, and 4 bars and 4 petrol stations
  • closed toll collection system i.e. 5 Toll Plazas and Stations ( 1 mainline Toll Plaza in Tarnawa, 4 Toll Stations in the motorway interchanges: Nowy Tomyśl, Trzciel, Jordanowo, Torzym)
  • complete environmental protection equipment (environmental ponds, noise barriers, isolating green, animal passes, security equipment – emergency call boxes every 2 km, fencing along the whole motorway (except for interchanges)

Owing to the construction of A2 Motorway from Nowy Tomyśl to the German border, in 2011 Poland shall be included in the European motorway network.
